Residents of Maryland know that the town of Bowie is actually prounounced like “buoy,” but that isn’t stopping the Bowie Baysox, minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, from doing a David Bowie-themed promotional night.

To celebrate the late singer’s birthday, the team is having its “David Bowie Tribute and 70th Birthday Celebration,” by wearing very glamorous David Bowie-themed jerseys for the night.

The best part is that they don’t even need to change the spelling of “Bowie!” We just all have to rewire our brains for the day to pronounce it like the singer, not the town.

After the game, the team will auction the jerseys, donating the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.

“Even after all these years, so many people pronounce Bowie [Maryand] as ‘Boh-ee,’” Baysox promotional manager Chris Rogers told MiLB.com. “I feel like a salmon fighting upstream. So it’ll be relaxing to just go with the flow for a day, and the next day fight the good fight all over again.”

This is just another reason for this editor to believe that Minor League Baseball is the best sports organization on the planet. (At least as promotional events and team names go.)
