While we cover our ears and hum Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out For Summer” every time a back-to-school commercial comes on the TV, there’s no denying that September is almost here. And while we can’t speak to the latest textbook volumes or which teachers give pop quizzes, we can tell you which fashion trends will be huge this year.
According to SF Gate, there are four trends on every student’s wish list.
1. Millennial Pink
We’ve been following Millennial Pink for quite some time now, and it looks like the color trend is here to stay. Whether it’s for backpacks, notebooks or apparel, this look will be huge for fall. Even Nike just released a Millennial Pink collection.
2.Tech-friendly Products
Trend analysts aren’t predicting Inspector Gadget-inspired garments, but students are looking for apparel items that can store their smartphones and tablets. Retailers like Vera Bradley, L.L. Bean and Herschel Supply Co. are all introducing laptop-friendly backpacks with storage space for headphone ports and cords. Similarly, cargo shorts, hoodies and denim are all being redesigned to accommodate students’ smartphones.
3. Sequined Sneakers
When it comes to sneakers for the upcoming back-to-school season, one thing is certain: the flashier, the better. Students are gravitating toward sneakers with light-up details, neon-colored cats, glitter emojis, metallic sequins, pom poms and rhinestones.
4. Add-on Accessories
Students are looking to customize everything from their lockers to their pencil pouches. As such, stickers, patches, pom poms and even emoji icons are making the rounds on back-to-school shopping lists nationwide. Office Depot has added accessories like keychains, charms and donut-shaped erasers to meet demand.
