In the midst of the tragic events unfolding in Texas, T-shirts have been popping up in Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass and Rockport featuring the slogan “We survived Hurricane Harvey.” The T-shirts have been selling on the side of the road, and they’ve ignited their own controversy.
According to KIII News, many feel that the shirts serve as a funny memory of a historic storm, while others deem the tees insensitive, especially for those who lost everything in the hurricane. Not to mention, none of the proceeds of the T-shirts are going to help the victims.
“This was an impressive storm,” said Jeff Thompson, a Texas resident. “I kind of wanted a little bit of a memory. Something to say I went through it.”
“We haven’t survived anything,” said Adrianna Ortega, another Texas resident. “It wasn’t fun being without power for five to six days.”
The company selling the T-shirts is from out of state, and while it is giving no proceeds to the victims, it did say it is selling the shirts at discounted prices.
Meanwhile, there are companies who are using apparel items, like these options, to raise money for the victims
