This year, athletes are taking their merchandising into their own hands, and the results are intriguing. Just this week, Dwyane Wade launched a line of apparel called the “D. Wade World Tour” to celebrate his final year in the NBA, and NFL sensation Patrick Mahomes launched his own line of branded apparel through his personal website.
Mahomes’ line features V-neck T-shirts, crew-neck T-shirts, hoodies, baby onesies, baseball tees, baseball caps and beanies. (We really want the flexfit hat.) The line ranges from $20 to $45, and it is a branding dream. Some apparel features the phrase “MVPAT,” while others feature what we can assume is his personal logo. In addition, there are some cartoon iterations of Mahomes, and several other offerings.

We think this is a clever way for athletes to make some extra cash off their fame, and to get their branding to more fans. Consumers would likely prefer some of these special-edition Mahomes looks, as opposed to a basic Mahomes shirsey or jersey.
