Charles River Apparel Goes Pink in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Leading apparel manufacturer Charles River Apparel, Sharon, Mass., is proud to “go pink” this October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A longtime supporter of cancer-related causes, the company partners with a variety of cancer support and wellness organizations across Massachusetts year round. This month, however, the company has expanded its efforts through a variety of ways including a promotion with leading Boston area sports talk radio station, 98.5 The Sports Hub, the flagship station of the New England Patriots Radio Network.

On Friday, Oct. 14, the hosts of each popular sports talk show on 98.5 The Sports Hub wore pink apparel from Charles River Apparel during their broadcasts raising awareness of the disease. Each of the pink Charles River Apparel items worn by the on-air talent will be autographed and then donated to local cancer-related charities to be auctioned off in order to raise money for their cancer research and support efforts.

“I think we all know someone who has been affected by this disease,” said Barry Lipsett, president and owner of Charles River Apparel. “I have personally lost family members, as well as employees of the Charles River Apparel family to this disease. That is why our company’s philanthropic efforts are focused on cancer research and wellness.”

In 2008, the company created their Be Pink Proud program in which it donates a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of selected pink styles to help benefit those afflicted with cancer. The program was created in memory of Charles River Apparel employees and family members Susan Lipsett de Vries and Eleanore Lipsett who lost their battles with cancer. The program runs year round.

Charles River Apparel has also partnered with the Ellie Fund, a Massachusetts non-profit organization that offers support services to those battling the disease. For the entire month of October, the company is donating five percent of all sales from any pink purchases to the Ellie Fund’s “Do Good” campaign.

“As a recognized leader in our community for our work with cancer-related causes, it’s important that we continue to make it a priority to partner with and support such wonderful local organizations that are fighting the battle and raising awareness of such an awful disease,” added Kate Souza, public relations specialist for Charles River Apparel.

Additionally, the company hosted local boutique salon Gloss & Glamour at their headquarters in Sharon, Mass., to give employees pink feather extensions with the money going toward the Gloria Gemma Foundation, a Rhode Island based non-profit cancer organization focused on raising breast cancer awareness and fundraising for local causes.
