Malbon Golf’s ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Apparel and Accessory Line Is Pretty, Pretty Good

To tie in with the finale of the ever-hilarious, ever-frustrating “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Malbon Golf created a special line of apparel referencing the final season’s golf-centric storylines.

Much of the plot points revolve around Larry and his friends at their country club, playing golf and dealing with the politics associated with their elite Santa Monica society.

Malbon Golf has been one of the brands that has brought golf to a less stuffy level, collaborating with other brands previously disconnected from golf, like skateboard companies. It reflects the changing dynamic of the golf world, where streetwear and younger audiences have more influence over the apparel.

The most genius part of the Malbon x Curb Your Enthusiasm collection, really, is that the model for the apparel is Dana Lee, actor who plays Mr. Takahashi, the stern head of the club who often goes head to head with Larry.

The collection itself is fairly standard for a modern golf apparel collaboration: There are polos, quarter-zips, golf balls, ball markers, hats, and golf towels. For the clothing that you won’t actually wear on the course, though, there are long-sleeve tees, hoodies, and crewneck sweatshirts.

A lot of the collection uses the Malbon logo—a golf ball wearing a hat—but uses Larry’s glasses motif to tie it in with “Curb.”

Some, like the crewneck sweatshirt, have a print of Larry in a casual stance waiting for his turn to putt. Others use quotes from the show.

We really can’t overstate the subtle genius of using the Mr. Takahashi character to pull it all together. It makes for such a stronger connection to the source material.

But, really, the genius here is just creating another example of the modern golf promo, where there’s room for fun, pop culture, and contemporary fashion. Using subtle, but effective, co-branded logos makes it clear that two IP’s are working together without ever stepping on one another’s toes or becoming too much for one garment or item.
