Promotions Are Coming: 3 Ways to Honor Game of Thrones

Certain months bring the action, and March hasn’t disappointed. Think about it. International Women’s Day was on March 8. Pub crawls are in full swing as St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) approaches. And if you’re into dyeing eggs and going to brunch, Easter (along with my grandmother’s 86th birthday) falls on March 31.

However, there’s another big event happening on March 31 that you won’t find printed on your calendars: It’s “Game of Thrones” season premiere day! If you’re unfamiliar with “Game of Thrones,” it’s an epic fantasy television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The show is an adaptation of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels*.

There’s too much information about “Game of Thrones” (and Martin’s books) to communicate. Here’s an oversimplified summary in one sentence, courtesy of Wikipedia: “Through its morally ambiguous characters, the series explores issues of social hierarchy, religion, civil war, sexuality, crime and punishment.” Bottom line, pick up the books and watch old episodes on HBO On Demand.

Because “Game of Thrones” season premiere day trumps everything else, I thought it would be fun to connect the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos to the real world of promotional products. Enjoy!

1. Hear Me Roar

House Lannister of Casterly Rock is … complicated. The Lannisters are one of the richest and most powerful families in the Great Houses of Westeros, and the Lannister sigil is a golden lion on a crimson field. This family really doesn’t care what you think of them. After all, head of the house and Lord of Casterly Rock Tywin Lannister noted: “The lion doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of the sheep.” Pay your debts to the Lannister legacy with Classic Lion Head Bookends from West Art. They are the perfect place to display Martin’s novels as well (hint, hint).

2. Map Out a Plan

Maps covering a variety of landscapes—from bitter tundra to arid wasteland—are featured in the front of every volume of Martin’s series (Note, they’re also featured in the opening credits of every episode.). Illustrator and cartographer Jonathan Roberts recently transformed Martin’s original artwork into a gorgeous collection of maps ranging from King’s Landing to across the Narrow Sea in “The Lands of Ice and Fire.” While it’s easy to rely on the convenience of GPS, serious travelers don’t leave home without their trusty map. Policy Sheaths/Map Cases from FEY Promotional Products Group enable travelers to safely store their maps (or insurance policies) inside briefcases, glove compartments and luggage.

3. Moonlighting

Jason Momoa portrays my beloved Dothraki warlord, Khal Drogo. There are many things to love about Drogo, but one scene from Season 1 particularly stands out to me. While speaking to his wife, Daenerys Targaryen, in his native tongue, Drogo calls her, “Moon of my life.” Live each day like a romantic warlord with ALPI International’s Glow Happy Moon Squeezies Stress Reliever.

*The first novel in the series is titled “A Game of Thrones.”
