Productivity site WorkAwesome recently published an article on the value of humor in the workplace. Among its points, it mentioned that humor can be critical for building trust and comfort between coworkers, leading to greater productivity overall. Said the article:
“Better cooperation between employees and teams almost automatically improves productivity, and humor creates the space for employees to challenge and change old habits and obsolete procedures.
It can help create a culture where we laugh at our mistakes and learn from them rather than yelling at each other, and it gives people the feeling of more control over their workplace. When they feel more comfortable and safe, they work harder, faster and more productively.”
It’s a great point, and one that’s served the Promo Marketing staff well. (Better than our old policy of, “You make a mistake, you get six months in the ‘Shame Barrel for Idiots,'” anyway. Not a lot of laughs, that one.)
What do you think? Do you use humor as a way to improve morale at your company? Tell us about it in the comment area below. If you want to see the other ways humor can improve the workplace, check out the WorkAwesome article “6 Benefits of Humor at Work.”
