San Diego Comic-Con, a huge comic book convention famous for its must-have giveaway gear, wrapped up its 2012 show this past weekend. With fans waiting in line for hours just for a chance to grab a limited-edition freebie, San Diego Comic-Con has some of the coolest and most clever trade show promotions out there. Below are three con giveaways that I thought were really great:
1. Walking Dead “Necklace of Ears”
Modeled after Daryl’s “Necklace of Trophy Zombie Ears” from the TV show, the promo necklace was given away at video-game publisher Activision’s booth for people who pre-ordered the new Walking Dead game. Super-exclusive, only 100 were given out at the show. For more info, see the article on joystiq.com.
To promote the new season of the TV series Bones, Fox gave away limited-editon posters and special rubber gloves that gave the appearance of an X-ray effect, letting wearers “show their own bones.” (image and short blurb from Spoiler TV.)
3. Free “Django Unchained” Tee
Con attendees who knew the secret code of “the D is silent,” could say it to any of the 6 “outlaws” walking the floor and get a promotional coin that could be redeemed for a con-exclusive tee. (love the red design!). Pictures and details about the contest from Moviefone.com, who I believe was responsible for the promotion.
Thanks for reading guys, and see you all next week!
