In honor of April’s National Volunteer week, Charles River Apparel, a leading manufacturer of outerwear and performance apparel based in Sharon, Mass., had its first-ever Charles River Cares volunteer activities. The Charles River Cares program supports the company’s efforts to help those in urgent need situations. Over the past 30 years, tens of thousands of clothing items have been donated both in the Unites States and abroad.
Charles River Apparel started off National Volunteer Week with a clothes drive, collecting hundreds of garments to benefit two local charities, Cradles to Crayons and Circle of Hope. Employees were given the opportunity to volunteer on company time at Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization that provides clothing and other essential items to children living in homeless or low-income situations. Employees sorted hundreds of pieces of children’s apparel, creating sets of clothing that will be given directly to infants and children. Charles River Apparel had over 50 percent employee participation in the company-sponsored event.
“The work that Cradles to Crayons does to better the lives of those in need is truly astounding,” said Barry Lipsett, president and owner of Charles River Apparel. “It was inspiring to see how many employees got involved, and were able to see the direct impact of their efforts in making a child’s life better.”
As a family-owned business, Charles River makes it a priority to give back to the community through volunteerism and charitable partnerships. In addition to those in need, Charles River Apparel is proud to be a recognized leader for their philanthropic efforts on behalf of cancer, supported through their landmark Be Pink Proud program.
