As seen in movies, such as “Signs,” some people believe that wearing hats made of aluminum foil (aka tinfoil hats) protects them from harmful electromagnetic waves and radiation. While aluminum hats are far from stylish, one company has created designer headwear that protects users’ heads from radiation (and looks less conspicuous in public.)
Shield Clothing created a Kickstarter to raise funds for its “Signal Proof Headwear,” which looks like ordinary beanies and baseball caps. However, the company claims that it uses pure silver as a fabric to block out what it calls “electromagnetic smog”—such as signals from phones, WiFi routers, microwaves, TV signals and satellites.
The item’s Kickstarter page also boasts that the unique fabric has antimicrobial and anti-oder properties, and is washable.
As of Dec. 28, the campaign has raised more than $16,000 of its $19,628 goal. The campaign ends on Jan. 7.
