With many of its 450 employees looking on, Prime Line donated $7,000 to the Breast Cancer Alliance at a ceremony held last week at the company’s headquarters in Bridgeport, Conn. The donation was the culmination of a three-month promotion to raise money for breast cancer research, education and support. It is one of the largest donations ever made by Prime Line to a non-profit organization.
“Breast cancer is a scary disease that affects one in eight women in the United States. It has touched many lives in our company and our industry,” said Prime Line president Jeff Lederer in remarks made during the ceremony. “We will continue to do whatever we can to help find a cure.”
Prime Line donated 5 percent of sales from pink items during the period July 1 through October 31, 2012. “I would like to thank our customers who supported our efforts by purchasing pink products from us,” added Lederer.
The company has a long-standing tradition of helping organizations that benefit the needs of children and families. Autism Speaks, Susan’s Rock and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation are among a small group of charities that have received support from Prime Line and the Lederer family.
Yonni Wattenmaker, executive director of the Breast Cancer Alliance, also spoke at the event. “We were so pleased to learn the Prime Line had selected the Breast Cancer Alliance as the recipient of proceeds generated from the sale of their pink items,” she said. “This generous donation will surely further the work we find in hope of a cure.”
The Breast Cancer Alliance, based in Greenwich, Conn., is currently the fourth largest non-profit, private funding provider to breast cancer research in the United States. The organization has funded several innovative breast cancer research and early detection initiatives.
