American Apparel, the Los Angeles-based manufacturer and retailer, announced several executive-level appointments this month. Stacey Shulman was named chief technology officer, and Jordan Schiff was named general merchandise manager.
Shulman has been with American Apparel since 2009 and is responsible for the company’s information technology operations. Prior to working with American Apparel, Shulman held positions with Island Pacific/Retail Pro and Retail Technologies International.
Schiff comes to American Apparel from Urban Outfitters, where he served in buying and communications. He will be responsible for global merchandising and strategy for the American Apparel. Schiff has also worked previously with Deloitte as a senior associate.
The two hires come after American Apparel announced a 14 percent increase in net sales for January, which included a record 21 percent increase in its wholesale division. “I am very encouraged by the sales performance of the company,” said Dov Charney, chairman and CEO of American Apparel. “Since September 2011, we have had positive retail same store sales, and for the months of November, December and January, our imprintable wholesale sales levels have been running at record levels beyond the previous highs set for those months in 2008.”
