American Apparel Inc., the Los Angeles supplier, manufacturer and retailer of branded fashion basic apparel, today announced that Jordan Schiff joined the company as general merchandise manager effective February 13, 2012. In that role, Schiff will be responsible for the merchandising strategy and execution for the brand globally.
“We are delighted to bring Jordan to the American Apparel team,” said Dov Charney, chief executive officer for American Apparel. “Jordan possesses a strong balance of creative and analytic skill, and has a deep appreciation of our brand. We look forward to his leadership and the pivotal role he’ll play in our future development.”
According to The New York Post, Schiff will be focusing on keeping American Apparel’s line on top of current market trends. “From the standpoint of the consumer, I think we could benefit from maybe a little more seasonality,” he said. “There’s an issue of timing – we need the right product in the right place at the right price.”
Prior to joining American Apparel, Schiff worked for Urban Outfitters Inc. as a merchant and also reported to its chief executive officer on strategic communications. Prior to Urban Outfitters, he was with Deloitte Consulting and Deloitte Financial Advisory Services. Schiff holds degrees from Case Western Reserve University and the University of Chicago.
