Editor’s Picks: In Love with Cardigans

In 1996, the pop song “Lovefool” permeated all of the alternative rock radio stations. As a sophomore in high school, the lyrics only heightened my quest for love—or, really, a date to one of the proms.

“Love me, love me … say that you love me.” I know there’s more to the song than that, but it’s all I can bring myself to remember. Wait a minute. When someone mentioned “The Cardigans” to me earlier today, I thought this was supposed to be about the one-hit wonder by Peter Svensson and Nina Pearson. Oops.

I’d much rather discuss—and ponder—cardigan sweaters. After all, they’re a hot item this season and I foresee a few of them being added to my fall/winter wardrobe. I’m sure your clients will feel the same way. But whatever you do, don’t play them “Lovefool” during a sales pitch.

Silk to the Touch
An essential top layer, the Ladies Silk Touch Interlock Cardigan from SanMar has gathers at the back yoke and a 7-button cardigan placket with dyed-to-match buttons. Ideal for the office or after hours, the top is crafted from incredibly smooth Silk Touch interlock knit. Soft and durable, it is wrinkle-resistant. It comes in black, bright berry, navy, red or white.

Light as a Feather
The Featherweight Long Cardigan from Edwards Garment is a must-have for any cool-weather wardrobe. Made from a cotton/acrylic blend, the sweater has a soft and smooth drape. Available colors include: navy, black or heather grey.

Burning Up
The men’s regular fit Burnout Fleece Shawl Cardigan from Alternative Apparel features a raw-edge collar and five-button pocket. Sleeve and bottom hems are set in 2×1 rib. The 50/50 cotton/polyester piece should be washed before wearing (machine wash cold, tumble dry low). Because the burnout fleece fabric is treated by hand, each one-of-a-kind garment may exhibit outstanding color characteristics, unique weathering effects and slight surface variations.
