On Wednesday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that GBG Accessories Group recalled two styles of Ivanka Trump-branded scarves because they do not meet federal flammability standards for clothing materials and pose a risk of burning.
The 100 percent rayon scarves feature “Ivanka Trump” embroidered in silver and sewn onto the edges of the scarves, and were sold at retail outlets, such as Lord & Taylor, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx and Stein Mart, and online at Amazon.com from October 2014 to January 2016. The two recalled styles are the beach wave and brushstroke oblong.
“This is a dangerous product,” Scott Wolfson, a spokesman for the CPSC, told The New York Times.
According to The New York Times, CPSC officials acquired samples of the products and tested them for flammability. Now, GBG Accessories Group, which imported the products from China, has recalled 20,000 units due to their risk of flammability.
“We’re disappointed to learn of the need for Global Brands Group, our license partner, to recall two styles of Ivanka Trump scarves,” Tricia Whalen, a spokeswoman for the Ivanka Trump Collection, said in a statement to The New York Times. “But we are relieved that immediate action is being taken. We’re seeing to it that this issue is fixed immediately.”
The CPSC has not received any reports of injuries, but it recommended that consumers immediately stop using the scarves and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
