Don’t Like Showing Item Numbers to Clients?

Question: I don’t like to show item numbers to my clients. Is there a way to avoid that in QuickBooks?

Answer: Yes. You can customize templates to include only the fields you want and eliminate those you don’t. (And, it is a good idea to not show item numbers on customer forms, as it makes it a little too easy for your ideas to be shopped.)

QuickBooks does allow you to customize the forms you use. Here’s how:

Go to “lists,” and then “templates,” where you will see the list of possible templates, all of which can be edited. Pay attention to the template type. If you want to edit an invoice, make sure the form type selected is that of an invoice.

As a distributor, on my customer forms, I hid the supplier item numbers and instead included the item description. And, though not visible to the client, it was visible to me on the input screen.

QuickBooks Premier and Enterprise can be modified to better serve ad specialty distributors.
