Amazon is out here one-upping everyone. While the U.S. Postal Service, eBay and others cautiously test same-day delivery, the online retail giant announced it has expanded its one-hour delivery service—known as Prime Now—to Baltimore and Miami. The two cities join New York City as the three locations eligible for the speedy delivery program.
In a press release, Amazon noted the service is launching in select zip codes in each city before expanding to additional zip codes soon. Accessible to Amazon Prime subscribers, the service features a $7.99 one-hour delivery option or a free two-hour delivery option, and is available seven days a week via Amazon’s dedicated Prime Now iPhone and Android app.
“Customers in Manhattan and Brooklyn love Prime Now—it means you can skip a trip to the store and get the items you need delivered right to your door in under an hour,” Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, said in the release. “Since launching, we’ve seen high demand on everything from essentials like water and paper towels to more surprising deliveries like getting a customer a hard-to-find, top-selling toy in 23 minutes—we are excited to continue delivering to customers in record-breaking time.”
Amazon plans to expand the service further in 2015, though it has not announced the next cities in line. According to TechCrunch, the company will “focus on dense, urban areas where it’s easier to move goods across town quickly.”
