Amazon is getting serious about counterfeit products, according to SlashGear. In an effort to keep merchants from selling fake products, the e-commerce site is changing its policy regarding big-name brands.

Retailers selling brands like Asics, Adidas and Nike will be hit with a $1,500 fee and must provide copies of manufacturer invoices as proof that the goods are authentic. Toy sellers reselling Pokemon, Hasbro and Lego toys will have to pay a $1,000 fee.

Naturally, some merchants are upset about Amazon’s new policy. They believe this indicates that Amazon is moving toward an authorized sellers only format, which means resellers will have to take their business elsewhere. According to a survey from WebRetailer and Feedvisor, 61 percent of Amazon sellers fear being banned.

But, Amazon is standing firm, saying its priority is to protect the customers from bad purchases.

“We want customers to be able to shop with confidence on Amazon,” a spokesperson said to CNBC. “For certain products and categories, Amazon requires additional performance checks, other qualification requirements and fees.”
