According to Digital Trends, Apple might be launching wireless headphones with the iPhone 7. We’ve reported previously on Apple’s decision to remove the headphone jack. But, could “AirPod” headphones be the next Apple frontier?
MacRumors uncovered a certificate referencing the “AirPods,” but the documentation is lacking in any major details. However, Apple Inc. is listed as the filing party, so the company definitely is up to something.
We’ll probably get more information at Apple’s press event in San Francisco on Sept. 7.
Digital Trends pointed out that MacRumors uncovered a trademark for “AirPods” back in October. Not to mention, Forbes spoke to a source that said Apple is developing a Bluetooth radio chip for wireless earbuds. If the Bluetooth technology is successful, it will fix the issue of limited battery life.
Whether or not the “AirPods” would be bundled with the new iPhone 7 or sold at a premium is unknown. But, it seems certain that Apple is taking liberties with conventional headphones for its next iPhone.
Suppliers and distributors in the headphones space should follow this news closely. Any Apple innovation in the headphones industry could send end-user demands sky high.
