Branded shoe collaborations have been popping up everywhere, and we’re really not mad about it. So far, each one has had its share of cool design elements behind it. Today, we’re covering the Kyrie Irving and SpongeBob SquarePants collection from Nike, and there are some fun features and other reasons that these branded shoes will be flying off the shelves on August 10.
1. Great Design
First off, the design is great. Each style of the sneakers was designed incorporating details from each main character from the show. Nike has created some jaw-dropping designs over the years, and these are no exception. In addition to the exterior, the sole of each shoe features the face of one of five characters: SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Sandy Cheeks and Patrick Star.

The Nike swoosh on the SpongeBob-inspired pair is in the form of a sponge, while the Mr. Krabs pair features another character, Plankton, splattered on the side. Plus, as Bustle noted, the interior of that shoe is decorated with money, which is very fitting for Mr. Krabs’ character. Meanwhile, the Sandy Cheeks’ pair features an acorn and a flower detail that really ties the sneaker together.
2. Options
For those who aren’t a huge fan of high-top style sneakers, the good news is that there are two pairs that come in low tops, giving consumers a bit more choice.

3. Good Timing
Zappos recently celebrated its 20th anniversary by releasing a few limited-edition anniversary shoes (Birkenstocks being one of them) and similarly, Nike’s SpongeBob collection is timed for the 20th anniversary of the show’s premiere.

While we’re still trying to figure out how it’s be 20 years since SpongeBob debuted, milestones like this are definitely a reason to celebrate. This branded shoe collection shows how you can get creative with it, too.
