$9,650 Typo: ‘In Dog We Trust’ Rug Sold for Charity

Typos can be costly—say, if you have to replace 8,000 misprinted bags or a stadium’s worth of misspelled souvenir cups. Who knew they could be big moneymakers, too.

And for a good cause.

Remember that Florida sheriff’s rug printed with “In Dog We Trust”? After receiving a number of offers on social media, Bob Gualtieri of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office decided to auction it off, with all proceeds going to Canine Estates Inc., a local animal rescue.

According to CNN, the rug, originally purchased for $500, received 83 bids and fetched $9,650 at auction. The best part? The department’s official auction listing:

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will not sweep anything under the rug. Due to extensive interest regarding our plans for the doggone rug, you can bid on it here, and we will donate 100 percent of your bid to Canine Estates Inc., a local animal rescue.

The sheriff’s office told Tampa’s WFLA-TV the listing got 30,980 hits before the sale was finalized. The rug sold to an anonymous bidder.
