Adidas has unveiled the uniforms and apparel collection for the 65th NBA All-Star Game in Toronto, which will be the first NBA All-Star Game to take place outside of the U.S. To celebrate this fact, Adidas incorporated elements indigenous to Canada, Toronto’s cityscape and its basketball history.
“To honor this global celebration and pay tribute to Toronto—the site of the NBA’s first game—we’ve incorporated design elements that are inspired by the city’s basketball history, sports culture and unique fashion scene to make an All-Star collection that players and fans will love,” said Chris Grancio, global basketball general manager for Adidas, in a statement.
The uniforms for both the Western Conference and Eastern Conference feature a maple leaf overlay on the front, and a depiction of Toronto’s skyline on the back. The uniforms also feature retro, single-layered fonts reminiscent of the NBA’s early days, especially the first NBA game between the Toronto Huskies and New York Knicks on Nov. 1, 1946.
The design includes a star patch featuring a maple leaf and NBA logo on the back of the uniforms, as well as the Toronto Raptors’ claw logo. Inside the jersey’s neck liners and short drawstring is a mosaic of flag colors, representing the diverse backgrounds of the league’s players.
To go along with the game-time uniforms, Adidas designed warm-up apparel, including fleece jackets, pants and warm-up shooting shirts. The fleece jacket features the number of each player and patches indicating a player’s honors, such as NBA Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, All-Star Game MVP and NBA Championships.
