Promo Marketing has learned that American Apparel, the Los Angeles-based apparel supplier and manufacturer, has acquired California beachwear brand Warriors of Radness.
In an email sent out over the weekend, representatives from Warriors of Radness explained that the surfwear company had reached an agreement to sell its business to American Apparel. “My old friend Dov Charney and his American Apparel Company have adopted the the unruly West Coast bastard stepchild of California Style: Warriors of Radness,” the statement reads. “We now have the muscle of an almost $600 million dollar behemoth of garment manufacturing behind us.”
The Southern California retail company, known for its ’80s-inspired T-shirts and board shorts, was launched by American designer Rick Klotz in 2007, and has partnered with several other apparel companies like Dockers and Fred Segal. Klotz also owns streetwear brand Freshjive.
Details of the deal, including financial figures and how the new line will be integrated into American Apparel’s offerings, were not announced. For more information, visit www.americanapparel.net.
