A Phoenix, Arizona-based apparel company donated $200,000 in unsold T-shirts to victims of the Sonoma County fire in California. The company, X-treme Apparel, is also selling #SonomaCountyStrong T-shirts and hats, donating the proceeds to fire recovery in the area.
“We’re raising money and trying to raise awareness that it only takes one family to help one family, and we can all play a part of getting these people’s lives back together,” Steve Basmajian, X-treme Apparel co-owner, told ABC 7.
The company took similar action after the Las Vegas shooting, Arizona wildfires and the Sept. 11 attacks.
“X-treme Apparel has raised over $100K for the Granite Mountain Hotshot families, National Guard families, and the people of AZ during the Rode/Chedeski fires [and] Las Vegas mass shooting tragedy,” the company said on its website. “We now want to focus our efforts on those affected by the Sonoma County fires.”
According to The Press Democrat, there were 23 fatalities as a result of the fire in Sonoma County, with 42 reported from the fire overall in Northern California.
As of Oct. 21, 85 percent of the Nuns fire in Sonoma County was contained, with at least 85 percent of fires in surrounding counties contained. Officials estimated that the fires will be contained by Wednesday of this week.
