Bag Makers Inc., Union, Ill., today announced it was affected by a malware attack on Jan. 13 that encrypted information on some information technology systems and disrupted customer access to services. The company wants to alert customers that phone and fax lines, along with the company website, are currently shut down. Email access is limited.
Upon discovery of the attack, the company’s technical team, with the support of third-party advisers, immediately began investigating and working on a recovery plan with the goal of restoring service as quickly as possible. At this time, the company has seen no evidence that customer or employee data has been compromised or improperly accessed.
Bag Makers said in a release that it appreciates customers’ patience as it works toward a resolution, and will provide updates as it has relevant information to share.
UPDATE Jan. 15, 2020 – Bag Makers today issued the following update on its operations:
Bag Makers Inc. has resumed limited operations following a Jan. 13, 2020, malware attack on its I.T. systems. The company has re-established limited email capabilities and is proceeding with manual order processing, production, and shipping.
Bag Makers would like to provide guidance to customers about the status of orders placed prior to the malware attack:
- Bag Makers is currently producing and shipping orders that had completed all final approvals prior to end of day Jan. 10, 2020.
- If an order was submitted without complete information or had not completed the final approval process prior to Jan. 13, 2020, customers are asked to email [email protected]. Bag Makers will work with them to identify the current order status.
Bag Makers is accepting new orders and reorders through its normal order submission process. Customers can find up-to-date 2020 product pricing on ESP. To ensure efficient order processing, Bag Makers asks customers to include both a purchase order and artwork in one email for new orders. For reorders, customers are asked to include the most current Bag Makers job number, which can be found on the most recent project proof or invoice.
