Beacon Promotions Inc., New Ulm, Minn., held programs to support the Brown County United Way. The United Way supports numerous programs in the county, primarily in the areas of education, health, self-sufficiency and basic needs. A few of the programs supported Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library—which provides books for newborns through age 5—scouting programs, sports camps, a backpack program and day of caring, which helps residents with household tasks.
The week started with a presentation from United Way representatives. Through the week there were numerous events for Beacon employees to get involved and make donations such, as a “penny war” coin collection involving 11 teams, a silent auction and a bake sale. Supervisors also competed in “Minute to Win It”-themed challenges, such as eating the most Saltine crackers in a minute, or moving cotton balls from one bowl to another by dipping their noses in Vaseline.
This year, 74 contributed to the United Way, up from 16 employees last year. The penny war raised $527. Overall, Beacon doubled their donations from last year to $5,670.
