Champion Athleticwear opened its first U.S. store in Los Angeles over the weekend. The big grand opening took place on April 7, and the first 500 customers received a limited edition canvas tote bag exclusively designed by local artist Stella Blu.

Champion chose Los Angeles because of its cultural offerings, the company said in a press release.
“The global sphere of influence in Los Angeles with regard to fashion, art, sports and entertainment culture make it the perfect place for Champion to bring its iconic heritage and product stories to life,” said Susan Hennike, president of Champion Athleticwear. “In today’s retail landscape, it’s vital to create a direct connection with our consumers. The need to provide a seamless customer experience across all channels makes this exactly the right time and place for Champion to launch this exciting retail concept in the United States.”

The store will feature exclusive Champion products only available at the Los Angeles store, which will be a huge draw. (We don’t have to tell you how much shoppers love exclusives.) There will also be frequent product drops, similar to Supreme’s business strategy.
But the really cool part is the onsite customization. According to the press release, shoppers can design their own one-of-a-kind garments tailored to their preferences. Champion in the latest apparel company to add on-site customization to its in-store experience. Adidas attempted a similar venture last year, but we think Champion’s model could actually be a huge draw, which is great news for the promotional industry.
Customers have been lining up for their chance to shop in the store, so Champion definitely might be on to something with their exclusive offerings and Instagram-worthy interiors.
