Cimpress, Venlo, Netherlands, announced its intention to decentralize the company’s operations. According to a press release, Cimpress’ central groups will only include global procurement and supplier research following the changes.
“This decentralization is a natural outgrowth of our strategy and consistent with the evolution of our organization as we pursue that strategy,” Robert Keane, CEO of Cimpress, said in a statement. “We started out as a single line of businesss; however, today Cimpress consists of more than 15 distinct business units. We employ almost 10,000 team members in about 50 locations, more than 30 countries and across six continents, and we aspire to continue growing for many years to come. It is important that, culturally speaking, we stay small as we get big.”
Cimpress will transfer about 3,000 team members that are part of central teams into its business units, and plans to reduce the scope of other roles and functions, which would result in the elimination of about 160 positions.
The company also announced that Trynka Shineman, previously president of Vistaprint, is now CEO of Vistaprint to reflect the increased scope of the position after decentralization.
Peter Kelly, CEO of National Pen, also will join the Cimpress executive team.
The company laid out in a press release that its main strategic objective is to become “the world leader in mass customization.” The company specifically mentioned the importance of small orders.
