Student athletes’ wardrobes are mostly made up of the apparel they get from their schools and teams. It’s a point of pride to show off one’s status as a representative of their alma mater. So, when Duke men’s basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski wanted to teach his Blue Devils team a lesson after what he felt was sub-par performance in his absence, he decided to ban his players from wearing Duke apparel.
When asked how long Duke players would be banned from wearing Blue Devils gear, a source close to the program told ESPN that the punishment would continue “until they start living up to the standards of the Duke program.”
Jeff Capel, the team’s acting coach while Krzyzewski recovers from surgery (though he’s still very much in charge, as we can see), said he “really can’t speak on it.”
“Disappointing when stuff that’s supposed to stay in the locker room gets out,” he said, according to ESPN.
Looks like the players’ apparel will stay in the locker room, too.
