Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons is known for creating a lot of unique pieces, including its collaboration with Converse Chuck Taylor and how it incorporated its heart logo on the popular shoe brand. While there have been some cool designs, there’s also been some more interesting—and questionable—fashion pieces as well. Comme des Garçons just released a color-blocked, shredded blazer, and it’s selling for $2,615.
At first glance from the picture online, it didn’t look like anything was off—it just looked like a spring-inspired two-toned color blazer. But after scrolling through the images, you could tell that this was far from a normal design. The “Pink & Gray Shred Double Layered Blazer” from the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus collection has vertical cuts throughout the entire top blazer and, as Highsnobiety noted, “looks as though it’s been through an industrial-sized paper shredder.”
Comme des Garçons has launched other frayed apparel pieces before, and while we do understand the whole frayed and distressed look brands are going for, this piece might be a bit over the top. Even the SSENSE website selling the blazer had an interesting way of describing the details:
Long-sleeve cotton and linen-blend colorblocked blazer in pink and check-patterned multicolor. Shredded blazer-style overlay at body. Notched lapel collar. Button closure and welt pockets at front. Vented back hem. Unlined. Tonal stitching.
Besides the jacket looking like a vintage DIY project, there’s something else that sticks out about the apparel piece: the cost. While there are technically two blazers being sold as one, it’s not the cheapest blazer, so we’re interested to see how people will react to this. We’ve previously covered how pre-destroyed apparel is bad idea, especially when the item is selling for a large price, and it typically doesn’t end well. But, who knows, maybe this will double blazer be the next trend in apparel?
