St. Paul, Minnesota-based supplier Crystal D announced it has packed 22,032 meals for hungry children around the world on Oct 3. This is a new record for the company—exceeding 2012 numbers by 4,752 meals.
The meals were designed by Minnesota food scientists to meet the nutritional needs of a 4-to-8-year-old malnourished child. They are specifically tailored to fulfill a child’s nutritional needs for one day using nutrient-rich dehydrated vegetables, soy, rice, and chicken flavoring. The meals are shipped to nearly 70 countries around the world. Of the 600 million meals shipped, 99.96 percent have reached the hungry children they were intended for. The meals are just 22 cents each.
In addition to donating their time, some employees also donated financially to the organization. All financial donations were completely voluntary.
“Packing food for those in desperate need is humbling. We are blessed with so much and many have so very little,” said TeriKay Thein, receptionist and blank/sample order manager.
“There is nothing better in the world then knowing that we helped feed hungry children,” said Cathy Klein, human resources and accounting manager.
