Daughter of Hub Pen Employee Receives PPEF Scholarship Renewal

Tammy Thai, daughter of Truong Thai, materials handler for Hub Pen Company, Braintree, Mass., has been granted renewal of her Four-Year College Scholarship for Academic Excellence from the Promotional Products Education Foundation (PPEF). Thai, a 2009 graduate of Quincy High School in Quincy, Massachusetts, is attending the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she is enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program.

This is the third installment of the $4,000 scholarship, which is awarded $1,000 over four years provided that she meets the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement and current employment in the promotional products industry is maintained by her father.

“In addition to being a great financial help, the PPEF scholarship has motivated me to continue doing my best in college,” Thai said. “My plans for the future are to finish school with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and work at a hospital. Thanks to this scholarship, I am one step closer to fulfilling my dream of becoming a pharmacist.”

PPEF is organized to foster education for promotional products industry employees and their dependents by providing financial assistance through scholarships for pursuing educational opportunities. The process by which PPEF scholarship recipients are selected is a detailed one, involving reviews of academic achievement and careful evaluation of essays and resumes. Since 1989, PPEF has awarded $842,000 in college scholarships to 479 students. For 2011, $100,000 will be disbursed to 64 students.

Joe Fleming, Hub Pen Company general manager, commented, “PPEF provides a tremendous service to the promotional products industry. The Thai family is very thankful for the generous gift to help with Tammy’s education, and we couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments. Thanks to PPEF for helping her pursue her dream career.”
