Disney’s Selling an Interactive Spider-Man Item for a New Ride

As part of Disney California Adventure’s new Avengers theme park, Disney is selling exclusive Spider-Man merchandise that enhances the experience of a new ride.

The WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure ride lets guests shoot Spider Bots with web shooters. The ride recognizes the rider’s arm movements, and registers the “web shooting” that way. But, if you spend a little extra money, you can buy a physical web shooter that gives them special abilities on the ride, according to Cinema Blend.

Maybe if you’re not that into Spider-Man, you can actually buy different ones that give you the powers of other Avengers like Iron Man.

Wearable tech like this has been big in concert settings and sporting events. Those RFID bracelets correspond to the event, and enhance the light show or other visuals within the arena. And plenty of promotional products companies have started implementing augmented reality capabilities onto print and other items.

Then, once it’s over, it becomes a keepsake thanks to the branding.

Disney has nailed it again, giving an incentive for people who really want to smash the heck out of those Spider-Bots, or maybe someone who was on the fence about buying something on their trip to the park that day. It’s more than just a souvenir, and it’s more than just a perk on the ride.
