WHEN AND WHERE TO LOOK FOR CLIENTS:
GOLF CLUBS & RESORTS
There is no surprise here: Golf clubs need shirts with their logos. “Green grass golf clubs are a strong market for selling golf apparel,” Ambros said. “They generally buy their own products individually and have the need to embellish the products for their club houses,” he added.
OFFICES & ADVERTISERS
Ambros also suggested companies that may not focus on golf year-round, but do hold golf outings or sponsor players. “Also companies that sponsor golf outings and events or companies that do giveaways are also strong targets,” he stated.
DURING MARCH AND APRIL
The best time to sell golf apparel is in the beginning of spring when the weather is still chilly, but sunny days are soon to come. “We tend to see most of our apparel sell during spring right before the golf season takes off,” noted Katie Wyskochil, product manager for Pro Golf Premiums, Burlington, Wis. “This guarantees that customers will have enough time to imprint the apparel for their golf tournaments,” she said. Souza and Ambros agreed. “The warmer weather months are still typically where we see sales for golf polos and other golf apparel increase,” Souza added.
…AND ALL YEAR IF YOU GET CREATIVE
Don’t forget that many offices and corporations use golf shirts as uniforms for trade shows, company meetings and other non-golf events. This means you can sell them to a Northeast company in the dead of winter though they may not be months from golfing. “[Golf shirts] do continue to sell all year round,” Ambros confirmed.
HOW TO HANDLE IMPRINTS:
GO LOCAL
If you’re working under a tight deadline or just want to have closer control of imprints, visit local screen printers. “Pro Golf Premiums offers embroidery on some of our apparel and hats, but normally we recommend you order as stock product and have the items embroidered locally,” Wyskochil explained. “This will help decrease the lead time,” she added.
