Geiger Launches Carbon Neutral Program with UPS

Jo-an Lantz, executive vice president of Geiger, announced that the Lewiston, Maine distributor has further reinforced its commitment to sustainability by participating in the UPS carbon neutral program.

Geiger is the first in the promotional industry in North America to participate in a contractual carbon neutral program for its UPS shipments. This vital initiative is an environmentally responsible program where Geiger offsets the carbon impact of its UPS shipments to customers.

“We are proud to be proactively leading our company in this socially responsible direction, and to give our customers the ability to benefit from this service,” said Lantz.

Through this program UPS calculates carbon emissions for UPS shipments leaving the Geiger facility, then purchases and retires offsets equaling that amount. Offset projects include reforestation, renewable energy (wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectric), methane and landfill gas destruction, wastewater treatment and destruction of industrial pollutants. For added credibility, these projects are carefully chosen by UPS to ensure that they are high-quality, meeting international standards. UPS’s carbon calculation methodology and processes are certified by The CarbonNeutral Company and verified by Societe’ Generale de Surveillance (SGS). We are proud to be carbon neutral shipper!

“Geiger’s decision to provide its customers carbon neutral shipments is a demonstration of its commitment to making all of its operations sustainable—building on the good work they have already completed in the areas of product materials, facilities, and community engagement,” said Arnold Barlow, senior manager of sustainability solutions for UPS. “We are pleased to be a part of their mission to be an environmentally-responsible company.”
