Gildan (asi/56842) is getting recognized for sustainability.
The Montreal-headquartered company was recognized as one of the Best 50 Canadian corporate citizens by Corporate Knights, ranked 43rd on the list. It’s the third consecutive year that Gildan has made it onto the list, and the supplier notes that it’s the only textile and clothing manufacturer to make the cut.
In addition, Gildan was also included in the inaugural edition of Time’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies, ranking #275 on the list of Top 500 firms.
“We are proud to be included in the rankings of these reputable organizations, especially as we celebrate 20 years of sustainability reporting this summer,” said Glenn Chamandy, president and CEO of Gildan. “These recognitions are a testament to our steadfast commitment to ESG.”
Corporate Knights’ Best 50 ranking is based on its assessment of all publicly traded, privately owned Canadian and Crown corporations with gross annual revenues over CA$1 billion. Each corporation is evaluated on a set of up to 25 key performance indicators, such as carbon emissions and aspirations for greater social equity.
Time’s 2024 sustainability list identifies the top 500 companies from more than 5,000 of the world’s largest and most influential companies, assessed on over 20 key data points. Performance is measured against a variety of ESG rankings, including CDP, the Science Based Targets initiative and the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook. Time also looked at performance indicators such as emissions and energy intensity, health and safety, gender diversity in leadership, and gender pay equity.
Gildan recently published its 20th sustainability report, sharing emissions reporting data and goals among other topics.
Based on estimated 2022 North American promotional product revenue of $762.2 million, Gildan ranked fifth on Counselor’s most recent list of the largest suppliers in the industry. New rankings will be released this summer.
