Get Some Apparel Inspiration From Gucci’s New Mickey Mouse Collection

It’s hard to deny our love for all things Disney, especially anything that includes a particular mouse! Gucci must feel the same way, as the luxury fashion brand has teamed up with Disney on a Mickey Mouse-inspired collection that features sweatshirts, trench coats, cardigans, accessories, bags and more. If you’re looking for the perfect apparel to wear while binging all the old classics on Disney+ (or just to wear in general), this might be the collection for you. Although, it’ll come at a hefty price tag, because, well, it’s Gucci.

Based on the Chinese zodiac, 2020 is the Year of the Rat (or mouse) and works nicely since Mickey Mouse is the focus of the collaboration. The collection is set to launch tomorrow, Jan. 3, before the Chinese New Year begins on Jan. 25.

For the Year of the Pig last year, Gucci released a “Three Little Pigs” 19-piece collection that not only featured the classic Gucci design along with the “Three Little Pigs,” but the actual campaign also included real pigs. Yep, it was pretty adorable.

This year, photos for the campaign were shot in Disneyland to really tie the collaboration together. From some of the photos released on other news sources, like Hypebeast and Evening Standard, it’s clear that the Gucci design isn’t one of their most recent ones. In fact, it’s actually one of the luxury brand’s retro designs, according to Hypebeast:

A stand-out theme for the collection is the all-new Mini GG Supreme canvas with a Mickey Mouse print. This material features the iconic interlocking G pattern complete with Mickey Mouse repeated across it. This print is a reference to one of Gucci’s classic ’80s fabrics, with the original design, color and look all reproduced through high-definition digital printing.

Along with the throwback Gucci pattern, there are also jackets and matching polos with different colored Mickey and Minnie Mouse designs throughout the pieces that look identical to the old animations.

This collaboration definitely has an old school and retro theme, which is something we’ve noticed over the last few years with promotional apparel trends. It’s also a good example if you need some inspiration for how to give a piece of branded apparel an upscale, fashion-forward look. Pretty cool, too, that the graphics are all done via digital printing.
