The Internet Roasts Vetements’ $1K T-shirt Dress

First it was Nordstrom’s $425 “muddy” jeans, then it was Barneys’ $375 “Antifa” Jacket, and now, Vetements is the latest brand to come under fire for an insanely priced apparel product.

According to Today, french clothing brand Vetements released its new $1,000 T-shirt dress, and as you could have guessed, the internet had some things to say about it. Even crazier, the T-shirt dress was selling on Nordstrom for $1,450, and it reportedly sold out. Now, it’s available again for $724.98, and Net-A-Porter is currently selling the item for $580, if you just have to have it.

So let’s discuss the details. Vetements’ T-shirt is essentially a giant white T-shirt measuring 61.5 inches long with a slit down the back. It’s basically a fashion-forward hospital gown.

While the item sold out at Nordstrom, it wasn’t spared from internet criticism in the user reviews section.

“You gotta be kidding me?!” one user wrote. “Go to Big & Tall get your 3XL, 4XL or whatever size you need! Don’t be ridiculous and pay for this! This has been the best thing I’ve seen all year!”

And the roast didn’t end there.

“This is the perfect dress to wear to my colonoscopy, I won’t even need to change because of the high slit in the back!” another user review said. “Very convenient and being plain white I can accessorize based on my mood that day. #winning!”

While the price tag is pretty ridiculous, Today pointed out one advantage to the T-shirt dress: It’s machine-washable cotton.

So for all our promotional apparel suppliers and distributors out there, maybe the T-shirt dress is the next big thing. Or maybe not. Keep an eye on this trend for 2018.
