Jonah Hill Made a Shirt for His New Movie ‘Mid90s’ and It Sold Out Within Hours

Jonah Hill is known for his many acting roles—“21 Jump Street”, “Superbad” and “Get Him to the Greek” to name a few—but his latest film, “Mid90s,” is Hill’s debut on the other side of the camera. We’ve seen recently with movies and television shows like “A Star Is Born” or “Game of Thrones” that fan demand for tie-in merchandise is still at an all-time high. This past week, Hill and film studio A24 not only released a movie that critics are raving about, but also created a long-sleeve shirt inspired by the film. What’s even more impressive than the film’s positive reviews? The shirt sold out within hours.

The movie might have been in theaters starting October 19, but the merch was announced a few days after the release. Hill uploaded an image of the long-sleeve tee on his Instagram with nothing but a URL in the caption:

That was a direct link to the now out-of-stock shirt. So, if fans were planning on buying this “Mid90s” shirt before seeing the film, they’re out of luck.

Wrote Highsnobiety:The merch was available from A24’s online store and consisted of only one product: a long-sleeved white crewneck with A24 written out in skateboards on the front—a reference to the movie’s narrative—and cast and production details on the back.”

The shirt’s design is what truly makes the item a popular seller, and why we’re not surprised it sold out so quickly. While Hill and A24 could have launched a shirt with only the movie title on it, they instead created an item that cleverly references the film. By using skateboards to create the “A24” logo, the shirt blends elements from both the film and the people who made it all happen.

Another cool detail? The back of the shirt lists the cast and crew featured in the film. This is something we don’t typically see on movie merchandise, so it was a neat component for Hill and A24 to add.

We’re not positive if the shirt will be restocked, but judging by the website, it could be a possibility in the future. If there’s one thing we can take away from this “Mid90s” tee, it’s that Jonah Hill’s merch sells out fast, and fans probably shouldn’t sleep on it.
