McDonald’s Gave Out 10,000 Mariah Carey T-shirts for Christmas

As soon as the leftovers are put away on Thanksgiving, Mariah Carey emerges from her autumnal slumber to reclaim her throne as the Queen of Christmas.

It’s funny that a superstar like Mariah Carey, who has had countless hits in her decades-spanning career, is often relegated to just one holiday season. But it’s also impossible to go just about anywhere from late November until New Year’s Eve without hearing her rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

We can’t deny that it does, in fact, rock.

McDonald’s can’t either. And after releasing the Mariah Carey celebrity meal just in time for the holiday season, the House of Ron showed off its gift-giving nature this Christmas by giving out 10,000 Mariah Carey T-shirts beginning yesterday.

The first 10,000 customers who ordered a Sausage McMuffin with Egg on the McDonald’s app from participating locations received the shirt, which features an image of Carey herself enjoying some food from McDonald’s.

The wildest part of this is that the shirts won’t even ship until February, meaning that they’ll most likely be used for next year’s holiday parties. It also means that, since they’ll be mailed directly to the consumer, there won’t be any round-the-block lines for products where people start fights or generally create chaos.

(Seriously, McDonald’s has seen enough of that with its partnerships with “Rick and Morty” and “Pokemon.” This Christmas, Mariah and McDonald’s want you to chill out a little bit.)

That said, demand was still crazy, with some shoppers saying the McDonald’s app crashed on them due to demand.

It’s a shame that not everyone can enjoy the tee for free, but it does show that McDonald’s celebrity meal and merch strategy is still going strong.
