More Major Athletic Brands Are Creating Exercise-Friendly Face Masks for Athletes

For many of us, working out has taken place in the comfort of our own homes the last few months, where we didn’t need to wear a mask. But those who took their workouts and activities outdoors know firsthand how important it is to find a breathable face covering as the months begin to get warmer and more humid.

Gyms reopening in some states are requiring members to wear face masks, and outdoor exercise figures to remain a popular alternative. Athletic brands are seeing the opportunity there. Last month, we covered Under Armour’s face mask designed for athletes that sold out of its first run in an hour. Now, it looks as though Under Armour might have some competition, as other major athletic brands are following suit.

MassLive had a roundup of the best face masks for exercising, including ones from Under Armour (the Sportsmask style that was previous sold out and is now available for preorder), Adidas and Reebok. Both the Adidas and Reebok masks are made with a soft and breathable fabric. Neither are considered medical grade PPE, but both can prevent the spread of viruses, as the article noted.

All three will have some competition from retail fashion brand Uniqlo. Financial Times reported on July 7 that the activewear masks available at Uniqlo were sold out as of June 26. These masks were “made from the same material used in its AIRism underwear,” and are apparently quick-drying.

As the weeks and months continue, we don’t see this trend of new face masks designed for athletes and gym-goers slowing down, especially as more areas make public mask-wearing mandatory.
