My Best Promotion

Safety promotions are a popular topic in My Best Promotion. Whatever the reason is—be it their effectiveness, lucrativeness, or ease of execution—everyone wants to talk and learn about safety promotions. Kirby Hasseman, president of Hasseman Marketing & Communications, Coshocton, Ohio, shared another great safety incentive program for the My Best Promotion collection.

Promo Marketing: Could you briefly describe a promotion that you consider one of your best?

Kirby Hasseman: We recently worked with a manufacturing plant for a national food producer to create a safety incentive. The plant went an entire year with no loss-time accidents, so every employee received a nice soft-shell jacket. It was a wildly successful campaign, and the jackets were extremely popular.

PM: What items did you use for the promotion, and why?

KH: I worked with the client to find a soft-shell jacket that not only had a nice look, but would also accommodate larger sizes. We also liked this jacket because the supplier offered in-house decoration … so there was only one PO.

PM: What was the promotions goal, and what did you do to make that goal happen?

KH: The goal was to reward employees for their safe year of work and to reined them to continue to work safely in the future.

PM: What was the best decision you made with the promotion?

KH: I work with all kinds of apparel suppliers, but with this order I was glad I used a supplier with in-house decoration. It made the entire process easier from start to finish.

PM: Do you have any other advice you’d like to give to distributors running a similar promotion? If so, what would it be, and why?

KH: My advice would be, “Don’t forget about safety.” So many times we focus on the marketing side of the business (and that is great), but make sure you work with the HR and safety divisions within your current client base. They are a great source of promotional business
