When we browsed Nike’s new spring collection last week, we had some questions. Looking at the athletic apparel retailer’s Nike Sportswear Metallic Jacket, we couldn’t help but think it looked like a space suit. But it looks like Nike kicked off an interesting trend. According to GQ, The North Face and Supreme are collaborating on a jacket that looks a lot like Nike’s new reflective apparel, leaving us wondering if the astronaut trend will be spring’s next big thing.
The new Supreme x The North Face collection will feature parkas, pants, sweatshirts, T-shirts, hats, backpacks and bags—and they’re all made of a metallic fabric.
However, according to Supreme, the clothes are durable, too (though maybe not as durable as actual spacesuits). The Mountain Park and Mountain Bib Pants feature metallic, waterproof, fully seam-sealed nylon constructions. The bags feature metallic, 420D, water-resistant nylon ripstop constructions.
The collection will be available online April 5, and we’re sure it will sell out in seconds, like all Supreme’s apparel collections.
It’s too early to say whether or not the astronaut trend will truly catch on in the retail world. Supreme tends to be on the ball when it comes to fashion trends, but this one seems exceptionally out there. However, if Nike is getting in on it, too, then this one might be here to stay. Who knows, maybe space suits will be the next millennial pink. Update your promotional apparel expectations accordingly.
