Not satisfied with simply sponsoring a hole for the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf outing, distributor Newton Manufacturing, Newton, Iowa, shook-up the event with a fun photo contest for participants. Phil Peden and David Schaaf of the company’s creative resource group set up shop at the clubhouse with a camera and boxes of props and convinced golfers to pose in costume.
For their willingness to let loose, Newton Manufacturing gave each golfer a golf tool and a commemorative frame with the foursome’s picture in it. The items were purchased from suppliers Gold Bond Inc. and Warwick Publishing, respectively. The pictures were then posted on the Chamber’s Facebook page and visitors could vote for their favorite photo by “liking” it. The foursome whose picture received the most “likes” won a prize package from the Chamber.
“The response from the golfers and Chamber volunteers was great,” said Peden. “Everyone had a lot of fun with it.” The photo op was to take place on the company-sponsored 5th hole at the Westwood Municipal Golf Course in Newton, Iowa, but heavy rain earlier in the day and threat of more forced the Newton Manufacturing team to stay close to the clubhouse. However the weather did not dampen the spirits of the golfers as 16 of the 18 foursomes chose to have their picture taken.
