Nike has long been at the forefront of athletic apparel trends, thanks to its cutting-edge running shoes and streetwear-inspired looks. So, when we caught a glimpse of its upcoming Spring 2018 apparel and footwear collection, we paid extra attention.
Here’s everything you need to know:
According to Nike, the collection aims to reimagine the company’s heritage. In terms of footwear, the Air Max 720 is already available at retail, and it is being dubbed the “first 100-percent lifestyle Air shoe.” In other words, it’s designed with the capabilities of a sports shoe, but with the look of a lifestyle shoe.
Now for the apparel. Here’s where things get interesting. From the looks of it, reflective apparel will be a big cornerstone of the spring offerings. Although, “reflective apparel” is truly an understatement. This apparel looks like it could double as a space suit. Nike, what was the inspiration behind this? David Bowie? Car sun shades? Tin foil? It’s interesting, we’ll give you that.
From there, we have the Sportswear T-shirt matched with the Sportswear Skirt. We’re somewhat surprised to see a skirt offered as part of an athletic collection, especially when it’s not a tennis skirt, but we guess Nike is going for that lifestyle apparel gold. But, we have to ask, are those snaps on the side? Are you trying to make breakaway skirts a thing?
In addition, joggers will continue to be a component in Nike’s lifestyle game. We have no questions on that.
For colors, it’s looking like neutral color-ways, and bold yellow and orange hues.
While some of these looks are very out there, we think they provide solid inspiration for anyone looking to update their athletic apparel offerings for spring and summer. But, we have two last questions: Is that a sweatshirt wrapped around another sweatshirt? Are dual sweatshirts the next big thing in street style?
