Most times, when a professional sports team releases its new uniforms, there are two reactions: approval or blind rage. Fans either love the new looks, or they say something along the lines of “I would have designed these so much better.” NFL teams have repeatedly learned this lesson, which is perhaps why the Los Angeles Rams are taking a new approach to their new uniforms.

According to Rams.com, the team is surveying their fans to determine a major uniform decision. A leaked document from February revealed that the team was considering a shift back to its 1960s-era, blue and white uniforms. Now, the team wants some help when it comes to the pants.

The team released this statement on Rams.com:

“Last season, the team wore white uniforms at home as a modern nod back to the days of the Fearsome Foursome and the team’s history at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Building upon last year, the Rams are seeking their fans’ help with a decision on the new uniform, specifically the pants. In 2017, the team’s pants will be white with one or two blue stripes. This change removes the gold from the team’s pants and follows the blue and white logo that the team will be using moving forward.

The Rams will continue to wear the white jersey worn in 2016 which contains navy and hints of gold.”

In order to gather as much voter information as possible, the Rams released a poll on Twitter and Facebook about the striped pants.

It will be interesting to see how this process affects fans’ reactions. If they don’t like the finished product, in a way, they only have themselves to blame. At the same time, it’s a relatively minimal decision the team is putting in fans’ hands, so I’m sure they’ll still find something to react to.

If this proves to be successful, however, this could be the future of team uniforms. Imagine an entire uniform built upon fans’ visions. It could be awesome.
