The Oscars’ Swag Bag Includes $47,000 Worth of Gifts

Hollywood’s biggest night is schedule for Sunday, when actors, directors and studio executives will pack into the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for The Oscars. While everyone will be watching to see who goes home with the famous gold statuette, made by industry supplier R.S. Owens (now owned by St. Regis Crystal), another topic of interest is what everyone attending will be taking when they leave: the infamous Oscar swag bag.

The gift bag given to those who attend the Oscars (which was known as the Academy Awards until this year) gets almost as much attention as the stars themselves, and companies compete for the chance to have their products included with the hopes of gaining the endorsement of an A-list celebrity. In 2013, the estimated value of each gift bag is $47,803, a five-year low for the show. The most expensive swag bag was given away in 2010, with a value of $93,108.

From a $5,000 “Vampire Facelift” to a $9.99 eco-friendly duffel bag, actors and actresses who don’t walk away with an award will still leave The Oscars with plenty of consolation prizes. While many of the items included are extravagant like the $12,000 weekend on Lizard Island, this year’s most expensive gift, some of the products are more practical. The least expensive item in 2013 is a bottle of Windex Touch-up Cleaner, valued at $4.

Lash Fary, founder and president of marketing firm Distinctive Assets, puts the bag together every year. In the video below, Fray spoke to The Hampton Roads Show about what is in the bag and how he decides which products to include every year. In addition, Entrepreneur has advice for companies looking to get their products included in such high-profile swag bags, and a full list of this year’s items is available on visit Business Insider’s website.
