Power Meetings Playbook Part 1: What the Heck Is a Power Meeting?

If you’ve ever attended one of our Power Meetings events, you already know how valuable the exclusive one-on-one supplier meeting format is for your business—and how much fun you’ll have while you’re there. If you’ve never been to a Power Meeting, well … what the heck are you waiting for?

Look, we don’t want to oversell these things, but if the legion of enthusiastic testimonials from happy attendees is any indication, Power Meetings are pretty much the gold standard for promotional products industry networking events. These aren’t your typical mega trade shows, where face time with suppliers is almost impossible. No, these are personal, individual meetings where suppliers already have information about you, your company and your challenges, so they can speak intelligently with you about innovative ideas to help you to solve problems and increase your sales.

OK, we know what you’re thinking. You have reservations. You’re busy and you don’t know how to fit a Power Meeting into your schedule. We get it. Just know that there have been others in your situation, and—you know what? Let’s just hear it from them.

Here’s Mike Button of Tricor Brand Communications, who was skeptical at first but finally decided to give Power Meetings a shot:

It was actually better than I thought it would be. Fun, engaging and a total professional experience. The venue was wonderful, but the personal contacts and personal engagements and building those relationships can not be replaced. This is where you make your money—ideas, relationships and commitments from your vendors. If you have that, you have the sale! Also, I met other distributors that I learned from. Yes, after 30 successful years in this business I’m still learning.

And here’s Carole Bradshaw from The Brandwagon, who took the Power Meeting plunge after some deliberation:

The experience was incredible! The one-on-one interaction with the suppliers was invaluable, forging new levels of communications and familiarity with products and people. The camaraderie of fellow distributors was as indispensable as the supplier interaction, as we had the opportunity to share our successes and challenges with each other. I literally made lifelong friends at the Power Meeting and am eager for the next one! All of the event details were very classy and complete; the rooms were nice, the food was tremendous, the Promo Marketing staff was always available to assist with anything we needed. It was quite a fun event!

Still hesitant? (We gotta hand it to you. You’re a tough sell.) How about this: Power Meetings are complimentary to attending top-level distributors—as in, they’re 100 percent free for you to attend. No registration fee, no meal coupons and no hassle. Distributors are taken care of from the minute they arrive at the airport to the minute they get back on the plane. We cover hotel reservations, meals, on-site transportation and all networking activities. And meetings are prescheduled to make sure every minute of the event is productive and worth your time.

“There are two misconceptions here,” Stacey McConnell, marketing and events director for Promo Marketing, told me. “One, that this is a conference. Not even close! These carefully planned events are opportunities for the distributor to meet exclusively with top suppliers in the industry. They are promised an appointment with each attending supplier to discuss their top client projects, learn about new products that fit their specific markets, and attain different strategies to help them with their sales and marketing goals. Two, that leaving the office would set you back. Again, a misconception. The time away from the office is to help distributors grow their relationships with attending suppliers, as well as to gather new ideas and uncover business solutions from other distributors, too. So many attendees have mentioned that it resulted in a good reboot and a good measure for them to go back to the office fresh and motivated!”

Our advice? Just. Try. It! Come to a Power Meeting and see for yourself. At worst, you get some great food and drinks while staying in a beautiful location. At best, you make meaningful and lasting connections that change your business forever.
