Promo Companies Take Eco-Friendly Steps for Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day, multiple companies within the print and promotional products industries took action to make positive change for the environment.

The first is HPG, which announced that it has gone carbon neutral, and published its new sustainability plan and suite of tools on Earth Day. Highlights include becoming a carbon-neutral enterprise through its partnership with Climate Impact Partners and the rollout of its Goods2KnowTM sustainable product categorization.

“This is the start of a new chapter for HPG and we have a lot more progress to make,” says HPG vice president of supply chain and sustainability for HPG. “HPG intends to make more sustainability improvements across HPG through people, processes, and technology in the years ahead. Sustainability is not another box to check off, but a commitment to improving the long-term interest of our customers, staff, shareholders, suppliers, communities, and planet in everything we do.”

HPG’s online ESG hub is designed to empower its distributors by providing tools, documents, product links, and services aligned with its sustainability initiatives. Distributors can easily access a wealth of resources and detailed insights through hpgbrands.com/esg.

In conjunction with the rollout of its ESG plan and sustainability report, HPG introduces Goods2Know™, a searchable collection of over 890 products featuring sustainable attributes such as products made in North America and items crafted with natural and recycled materials. HPG has added a new Goods2Know™ section on corresponding product pages, detailing applicable sustainable attributes in plain language, making it easy for distributors to communicate each product’s sustainability features to their clients.

HPG continues its dedication to assessing the impact of its present environmental, social, and governance policies while pragmatically and transparently setting ambitious targets for the future in its inaugural 2023 Sustainability Report. HPG aims to elevate its sustainability efforts and contribute to positive change within the promotional products industry.

“Thanks in no small part to Jing’s dedication, the entire HPG team has done an outstanding job of codifying and embedding HPG’s sustainability plans into our regular business practices,” says HPG CEO Chris Anderson. “I fully appreciate a complete shift will be a marathon, not a sprint; however, I believe we have taken a significant step forward with the host of changes we have revealed today, and look forward to meeting the challenges we have set for ourselves in the years ahead.”

At Orbus Visual Communications announced a recycling initiative for Earth Day.

With an established commitment to protecting the planet, Orbus places a premium on environmental awareness in all aspects of its operations. It recognizes that the world’s natural resources are limited and fragile and considers environmental awareness a must. For over a decade, Orbus has proudly recycled 75% of its total waste, diverting more than 10 million pounds from landfills. In 2023 alone, Orbus recycled over 1.6 million pounds of cardboard, paper, aluminum, fabric, plastic, steel, wood, and other materials, eliminating 80% of its waste from landfills.

Orbus has built and maintained a recycling program that separates recycled waste into categories such as cardboard, paper, aluminum, fabric, steel, and other. Orbus recycles 100% of its fabric and has campaigns set in place to further minimize waste and reprints. This year, Orbus is working with a new wood recycler, Jimenez Pallets, Inc., who turns wood waste into new pallets or into mulch if the waste is not salvageable.

Orbus headquarters has 100% motion-sensor LED lighting, water dispensers placed throughout the facility, automatic water fixtures, a product rental program to limit waste, and engineers and designs products for longevity.

Orbus has been ISO 14001:2015 certified since 2010. This certification acknowledges our environmental management system that minimizes our impact on the environment in the design, manufacture, and storage of trade show displays and accessories.

As Earth Day approaches, Orbus emphasizes its mission to lead by example and inspire others to embrace eco-conscious practices for a healthier, greener future.

“It’s truly inspiring to witness Orbus’ evolution towards greater eco-consciousness,” said vice president of marketing Natalie Whited. “We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but even more excited to continually implement more green practices in years to come.”
